Program Description : Sheppard Pratt School in Cumberland is a nonpublic special education day school located in Allegany County; we provide year-round educational, vocational, and daily living services to students in grades K through 12 who have emotional disabilities and autism. Our experienced, compassionate team of educators and therapists understand that every child deserves individualized instruction and support, and our programs help students meet their educational goals and prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Our team uses the Allegany County Curriculum, Maryland State College and Career Readiness Curriculum, and Syracuse Community-Referenced Curriculum guide to prepare our students for life after school. We partner with several local businesses to provide internships for our students as well, equipping them with valuable real-world skills. The school is home to an on-site greenhouse, kiln, and fishery, so our students can learn functional and transferable skills. Our students also regularly engage in fun activities to promote socialization and recreation including school dances, holiday parties, carnival, and our annual Bake Sale. Our students benefit from the support of Sheppard Pratt and have access to behavioral support, counseling, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy (provided by the sending county) vocational and life skills training, psychiatric and nursing services, social skills training, transition services, community outings, and more – all at school.
Related Services : Counseling, psychiatry, nursing, medication management, behavior support, occupational therapy (provided by the county), and speech and language therapy (provided by the county).
