Program Description : The Sheppard Pratt School - Gaithersburg is a program of the Sheppard Pratt Health System, Inc. (SPHS) and under the auspices of SPHS Board of Trustees and Administration, the Director of Education is responsible for the governance and operation of the education program. The students attend classroom and community-based instruction individually and in small groups. A student to staff ratio of 1:2 is maintained at all times. Instructional areas, which are determined by each student’s IEP, may include communication skills, self-care, individualized academics, fine and gross motor skills, socialization skills, career development, and recreation/leisure skills. Each student has an individualized schedule for programming in school that outlines his or her instructional day. Our primary goal is to integrate students into the public school instructional program to the greatest extent appropriate. The school implements the Common Core State Standards and The Syracuse Community-Referenced Curriculum Guide----using the same instructional materials and equipment as the local school system. The library media service of the local school system supports the instructional program. Therefore, students are provided opportunities to experience life in their community in compliance with their IEP.
Related Services : Related services available include case management, speech and language therapy, psychological services, school nursing services, and occupational therapy. These services are provided by direct therapy and/or consultation as indicated in the student’s IEP.
