Program Description : The Sheppard Pratt School - Frederick is a Type II school program developed to meet the needs of students with autism spectrum disorders, emotional disabilities, and other appropriate disabilities by providing a specialized education program while maximizing the opportunity to integrate students with a less restrictive public school setting. The program is a collaborative effort between the Sheppard Pratt Health System and the Frederick County Public School System to serve students in grades 1-5 who are expected to earn a high school diploma. The Forbush School at Frederick County will provide instructional, related services and mental health support to meet the needs of students in the program within the context of the public school setting. Students will be assigned to a self-contained classroom for core content courses taught by SPHS staff including special educators, educational assistants, and related service providers with the expectation that students will mainstream into the less restrictive FCPS setting for specials, lunch and content courses when readiness is demonstrated. Students will have access to public school facilities and programs (media center, cafeteria, computer lab, library, etc).
Related Services : Individual and group counseling and social skills training, speech and language therapy, crisis intervention. Other related services such as occupational and physical therapy are provided as determined by the student's Individualized Education Program.
